DON’T LOOK BACK By Gary Toole, The Christian Way Ministries

So many folk keep dragging themselves down spiritually by always looking back and dwelling on their past life.  Your past life should be like a rear view mirror in your car.  To remind you to stay on the right track, but if you turned around in your seat while driving and looked back, you would have a terrible collision.

So it is in our Christian walk.  We need to pray like the song Dottie Rambo wrote, “Remind me dear Lord!”  It goes, “Roll back the curtain of memories now and then; show me where you brought me from, and where I could have been; remember I’m human and humans forget, so remind me, remind me, dear Lord!”  Just show me a glimpse, Lord!  But I don’t want to wallow in the past.

The thing is that if we are obsessed with looking back and reliving the past we may be more tempted to go back.  So, don’t look back!

In Genesis 19:26, Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.  She looked back as if she wished she could go back.  One little boy said, “Oh, that ain’t nothing about Lot’s wife.  Why my mom was driving and took her eyes off the road when she looked back and she turned into a light pole.”

The past is the past.  Let it stay there!  If you know the Lord in an intimate way was your personal savior then forget the sins of your past, because they are covered by the precious blood of Jesus.  The Lord has cast them into the sea of forgetfulness as far as the east is from the west.  So, don’t look back!  And from past experience I can say amen to that!
