By Carol A. Gasser Moore

LAKELAND, Lanier County, Georgia – The Lakeland Fire and Rescue Department, under the leadership of Chief Gary Yeomans, continues to demonstrate outstanding dedication and professionalism in responding to emergencies throughout the community. Over the past week, the department has handled multiple incidents with precision and care, ensuring the safety and well-being of local residents.

On June 17, 2025, the Lakeland Fire and Rescue team responded to a call on East Main Street regarding a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, responders found that a truck had been stopped, preparing to turn left onto South College Street, when it was rear-ended by another truck. Fortunately, neither of the drivers involved sustained injuries. However, it was discovered that the driver responsible for the accident lacked a valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance. The prompt response and swift coordination with law enforcement ensured the situation was handled efficiently and safely.

Just two days later, on June 19, 2025, the department responded to another auto accident at the intersection of South Oak Street and East Talley Avenue. In this case, an SUV was turning left onto Talley Avenue when it was struck from behind by a truck hauling a trailer. EMS quickly arrived on the scene, and the driver of the SUV, who was complaining of back pain, was transported for further medical evaluation. The roadway was cleared without delay, allowing law enforcement to take over the scene.

In both incidents, the Lakeland Fire and Rescue Department’s rapid response helped minimize potential injuries and ensured the safe resolution of each accident. The coordination with emergency medical services (EMS) and law enforcement was seamless, reinforcing the critical role the department plays in community safety.

Chief Gary Yeomans, who oversees the department, commended the team for their professionalism and quick thinking in handling these emergencies. “Our firefighters and rescue personnel are dedicated to providing top-notch service to our community,” said Yeomans. “We take pride in our ability to respond to all types of incidents, whether it’s an auto accident or a medical emergency. Every call is an opportunity to make a positive impact on someone’s life.”

The Lakeland Fire and Rescue Department continues to serve the city with distinction, exemplifying the spirit of community care and selflessness. With a team of highly trained professionals, Chief Yeomans and his department are committed to keeping Lakeland safe and ensuring that every emergency is handled with the utmost urgency and skill.
