Going to Florida on Monday? Florida Flags to Be Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Fallen Florida Officers

FLORIDA – In a show of respect for Florida’s fallen law enforcement officers, Governor Ron DeSantis has directed that all United States and State of Florida flags be flown at half-staff on Monday, April 28.
The order, announced Friday, coincides with a statewide tribute organized by the Florida State Fraternal Order of Police, recognizing officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Flags at all local and state government buildings, facilities, and grounds will be lowered from sunrise until sunset.
According to the governor’s office, flag-lowering ceremonies mark solemn occasions such as the death of high-ranking state officials, uniformed law enforcement officers, fire service personnel, and prominent citizens.
“When you fly the flag, you are not only demonstrating your patriotism, but you are also honoring those who dedicated their lives to building this nation and those who gave their lives to defend it,” a statement from the Secretary of State emphasized.
Lowering the flag to half-staff is a time-honored tradition that serves as a powerful symbol of mourning, gratitude, and respect for the individuals who have served and protected their communities.
The directive comes as Florida joins states across the nation in observing similar ceremonies during National Police Week, which annually honors the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
