VALDOSTA, Lowndes County, Georgia – The Valdosta Fire Department (VPD) has released information about a weekend commercial structure fire. After receiving a call about 12:18 p.m., VFD fire crews responded to a fire located in the 1700 block of Old Clyattville Road.
The first fire unit arrived within 6 minutes of a 911 call according to Valdosta Fire Chief Brian Boutwell. The firefighters immediately found smoke coming from the roof of the building.
With the help of 16 fire personnel the fire was quickly brought under control. Boutwell indicates that the fire’s cause was an overheated boiler.
The business within the commercial structure was able to continue its operations. Boutwell indicates that there were an unspecified number of injuries.
The VFD was assisted by both the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) and the South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) during their emergency response to the fire.
