VALDOSTA, Lowndes County, Georgia – Officers investigating suspicious activity on Sawgrass Drive on Thursday, August 29 successfully arrested two persons with active arrest warrants. At about 1:45 p.m., Valdosta Police Department (VPD) Officers were in the 300 block of Sawgrass Drive, when they received information that subjects, who had active arrest warrants, were possibly located inside a residence. Immediately officers contacted the homeowner at the front door. The homeowner allowed the officers inside the residence to look for the subjects.
Kayla Michelle Altman (28) of Valdosta was the first arrested. Officers searched the residence, and observed a piece of clothing sticking out of the pantry in the kitchen. When they opened the pantry door, they located Altman. She physically resisted arrest when the officers attempted to get her out of the pantry. Altman was taken into custody.
It has been confirmed that Altman had active warrants through the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
Monte Gene McRae (28) of Valdosta was found when officers continued to check the residence for him. Just as in Altman’s case VPD Officers found that he had active arrest warrants. An unusually large pile of clothing caught the officers eyes inside the Laundry room. McRae was found hiding under the clothing. Officers confirmed that McRae also had active arrest warrants through the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Altman and McRae were transported to Lowndes County Jail for their active arrest warrants. Altman was also charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer (misdemeanor). McRae received an additional charge of giving a false name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer (misdemeanor).
“Our officers did an outstanding job being persistent during their search. They knew both subjects were in the residence and after a thorough search, both subjects were found,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
