LANIER COUNTY, Georgia – A driver caught traveling on Georgia 400 at 143 mph was arrested Friday, August 23rd. The driver was observed by deputies who were monitoring traffic on Valdosta Highway-221/GA-31.
Lanier County Sheriff Nick Norton reminds Lanier County citizens and anyone driving through Lanier County that local law enforcement officers can and will write citations for speeding, especially “super speeding” and also make arrests.
Sheriff Norton posted the incident on his Facebook page. A Lanier County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputy locked in a “super speeder” driver speed last week. In the photos, the driver’s speed is in RED “93”, and the Deputy’s speed is GREEN “49”.
At the time the speeder was spotted, the deputy was on evening duty and traveling on the Valdosta Highway-221/GA-31. According to Norton, Lanier County Sheriff’s Office frequently makes arrests and writes citations well over 100 MPH on that same highway.
The fine for super speeding is $705 by the county, plus $250 by the state for Super Speeder violations.
According to Lanier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted a vehicle traveling 93 MPH n a 55 MPH zone. The speeder’s identity has not been released, but the driver was charged with super speeder violation.
The Georgia Department of Driver Services states that ‘super speeders’ are drivers ticketed for traveling 75 MPH or faster on a two-lane road or 85 MPH or faster on other roads or highways.
“We want to remind everyone that speeding and reckless driving will not be tolerated in Lanier County,” said Sheriff Norton.

Way to go ! I admire Sheriffs that enforce the law.
