Do they not have more important things to write about? Surely coffee county has more serious crimes happening than someone being in possession of suboxone and not maintaining lane. Is this really news worthy?
Not maintaining lane is one of the driver actions that officers often observe which leads to a DUI type stop. As a family member of someone killed by a DUI driver … June 26, 2009, 12:20 a.m., who has been a regular speaker at MADD and Georgia Children’s Safety Team (GCST) VIP’s (Victim Impact Panels) for 15 years … I KNOW first-hand that it’s IMPORTANT for officers to make these stops!
My brother-in-law was killed, and the man standing next to him, as well as one man who became permanently disabled when the car rolled over one foot, and a man injured in the car he was driving when she turned back out into traffic following the bumper in front of her (another action officers notice).
NO ONE should lose a family member in this manner! NO ONE!!
The same summer a friend of mine lost her grown step-son when a DUI driver (18) pulled out from behind another vehicle and hit him head-on while on his motorcycle. Another friend lost her son, who was the DUI driver, when he came out of a bar parking lot on a motorcycle, eluded the consequence of officer observation, and hit a telephone pole killing himself.
NO ONE should have these experiences! NO ONE! The fact is that about 500 Georgians each year lose their lives in DUI traffic accidents because of someone’s choice to drink/use and drive impaired! It is the CHOICE of those driver’s to make their driving reaction impaired then travel in that manner thinking “nothing will happen”! It’s a lethal game that those individuals play with themselves and play with others!
Do you want to be the victim of a DUI driver? Do you want someone to make the choice of whether you live or die FOR YOU?
Most people don’t wake up one morning and say “I want to die at the hands of a DUI driver”, nor do DUI drivers wake up and say “I think I’ll kill someone today while I’m out having fun” … yet happens to to about 500 people annually each and every year in the State of Georgia!
