COMFORT FOOD: The Christian Way Ministries

COMFORT FOOD

By Gary Toole

We talk about comfort food like fried chicken, french fries, hamburgers and all kinds of sweets.  Should I add more?  And most folks stay busy providing their bodies with all this stuff and may I say, “With dire circumstances in the long run.”  Yet most are starving their precious soul that will live on forever of spiritual comfort food.

We are spirit, body and soul.  All three in one like the trinity, which is the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost – all three in one.  So, our soul needs comfort food too.

The Word of God can be so comforting in the time of need and trouble, but more importantly this spiritual food is so good that when we become a new person in Christ, we will want to partake of it all the time.  Even though the Lord gives us water to never thirst again and food that we never hunger again.  Yet we still want this spiritual nourishment, because it is life and life more abundantly.  Amen!

The 23rd Psalms is one of my favorite spiritual comfort foods.  It is so soothing and comforting to our troubled heart and mind.  We talk about physical therapy and yet this is spiritual therapy.  We can read the Psalms and it just blesses our soul and comforts our heart.  The wonderful God inspired, God anointed songs that just speak to our life is oh so comforting.

When we need one, the precious Lord will put one in our mind and heart to comfrort us.  The Word speaks of the Lord putting a song in our heart – a song of joy and peace.  Peace that surpasses man’s normal ability to understand.  Peace, peace comforting peace!  Then Jesus loves us so much and cared for us so that He sent back the comforter, the Holy Ghost to be our constant companion.  A comforting companion.

We used to use quilts.  Now, we have a big thick comforter, they call it! On a cold night, it is so pleasant.  So comforting.  That’s what the Holy Ghost will do for us on a hard, dreary despondent time in our life.  He brings comfort.  Can you say amen?
