Faith, Growth and Gratitude: Stockton Baptist Church Celebrates New Sanctuary Addition *

STOCKTON, Ga. — For generations, Stockton Baptist Church has stood as a place where families have worshiped, celebrated life’s blessings and leaned on one another through difficult seasons. On a joyful Sunday in June, the congregation added another memorable chapter to that history as members and friends gathered to dedicate the church’s newest sanctuary addition and celebrate what many describe as God’s continued faithfulness.   

More than 280 people filled the church for the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony, a crowd that reflected just how much the congregation has grown over the years. The church’s previous sanctuary could comfortably accommodate about 120 worshipers, making the need for additional space evident long before construction began.

Church members voted in August 2024 to move forward with building the new sanctuary, believing it was time to prepare for the future. They could not have known the challenges that lay ahead.

When Hurricane Helene damaged the existing sanctuary, the congregation temporarily moved its worship services to the church’s Family Life Center. While the storm created unexpected obstacles, it never diminished the church’s spirit. Members continued gathering, serving and worshiping together while construction and restoration efforts continued.

Now, with the new sanctuary completed debt-free through the generosity of the congregation and a significant gift from the estate of longtime deacon Bruce Williams, church members say the building represents far more than brick and mortar.

It is a testament to faith.

The dedication service was filled with thanksgiving as families who have called Stockton Baptist Church home for generations joined newer members to celebrate what God has done. Church leaders, members and community supporters gathered for the ribbon cutting before entering the beautiful new sanctuary for a service of worship and gratitude.

While many reflected on the church’s rich heritage, the focus throughout the day remained firmly on the future.

The new facilities will provide room for a growing congregation, expanded ministries, and opportunities to welcome new families for years to come. Members say they look forward to seeing children grow in faith, hosting community events, and continuing the church’s mission of sharing the Gospel throughout Lanier County and beyond.

The celebration also honored those whose vision and sacrifice helped make the project possible. From generations of faithful members who built the church’s foundation to those who contributed their time, talents and resources to the newest addition, the day served as a reminder that every generation leaves something for the next.

For a church whose history stretches back to the days when the Stockton community was still part of old Berrien County, the newest sanctuary addition represents another milestone in a legacy of faith that has endured for well over a century.

As the ribbon was cut and voices filled the sanctuary in song, the mood was unmistakable.

It was a day of celebration.

A day of gratitude.

And perhaps most importantly, it was a day of anticipation.

With a beautiful new place to worship and room to grow, the congregation of Stockton Baptist Church believes its greatest ministry is not behind it—but still ahead.
