LAKELAND, Ga. — Chess enthusiasts and curious beginners alike will have another opportunity to take a seat at the board as the Miller-Lakeland Library continues its Adult Chess program on Thursday, April 30, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Held at the library on South Valdosta Road, the program offers a welcoming environment where participants can practice strategy, challenge opponents and enjoy an hour of thoughtful play.

Library Manager Tania Gordan-Murdaugh said the program continues to grow in both participation and enthusiasm.

“Adult Chess allows adults to test their strategic skills and meet new people,” she said. “Middle school students participate more than the adults,” she added, highlighting the intergenerational appeal of the activity.

Whether seasoned players or first-time learners, attendees are encouraged to join in for friendly matches and community connection.

The Adult Chess program is part of the Miller-Lakeland Library’s broader effort to provide engaging opportunities for residents of all ages. From educational workshops to creative programming and social gatherings, the library remains a hub for learning and interaction in Lakeland.

Community members interested in joining are invited to drop in and take part in the fun—no experience required.

For additional program details, visit the library, view its calendar, or follow its social media pages for updates.
