Superintendent Woods: Suspending state gas tax is the right move – and needed to fuel Georgia schools

As fuel prices rise, the Georgia House of Representatives voted today to suspend the state gas tax for 60 days. The measure now moves to the Georgia Senate for approval. State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ statement is below:

“I appreciate the Georgia House of Representatives moving quickly to suspend the state gas tax and provide relief to Georgia families. Rising fuel prices are impacting school districts across our state, with the rising cost of diesel sharply increasing the expense of operating school buses. At the same time, higher gas prices affect the families bringing their children to school and the teachers and staff members who travel to work each day to serve students. I thank the members of the House for their action on this measure and urge the Senate to approve the legislation as well, so relief can reach Georgians as quickly as possible.”
