Southeast Georgia – Savannah’s Memorial Health plans to a five-story patient bed tower to meet the growing needs of Savannah and southeast Georgia, parent HCA Healthcare said in a March 27 announcement.
The $265 million structure will be adjacent to the main hospital tower on the hospital’s Waters Avenue campus in midtown Savannah.
In addition, the hospital expansion will include a new six-story parking garage, adding more than 1,000 parking spaces on the Memorial Health campus
“We are experiencing significant growth here in Savannah and southeast Georgia,” said Brad Talbert, Memorial Health chief executive officer. “This expansion project is critical as we will need additional capacity to meet the growing healthcare needs of our communities.”
The patient tower will have 90 operational beds and an additional floor with shell space for future use. The first floor will have a new entrance and lobby as well as a cafeteria and dining space for patients and visitors.
Other areas, including the hospital’s kitchen and supply chain functions, will be expanded and upgraded as part of this project.
“This expansion project is a testament to the commitment of Memorial Health and our parent company, HCA Healthcare to serve the healthcare needs of southeast Georgia,” said Talbert. “Upon completion of this project, HCA Healthcare will have invested more than $1 billion in capital in the greater Savannah area since 2018 in an effort to better serve our patients and bring new healthcare facilities to our region.”
A start date for construction is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
