LYONS, Toombs County, Georgia – Lyons Police Officer Dustin Matejcik (30) of Glennville has been charged with one felony count of Violation of Oath of Office and one felony count of Theft by Taking. The GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) arrested Matejcik on Tuesday, April 1.
According to GBI records, Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker requested the GBI to assist the Lyons Police Department (LPD) on Wednesday, March 26. The LPD wanted assistance with an officer theft investigation.
Information from the GBI indicates an incident on Saturday, March 22. In that incident, Matejcik assisted another Lyons Police Officer with a traffic stop that led to an arrest. The person who was being arrested requested that his personal items, which included money, be given to his employer, who was supposed to arrive at the scene to retrieve them. While the other officer took the person to jail, Matejcik was left alone at the scene.
The unidentified arrested person’s representative contacted the LPD on Tuesday, March 25. That individual made an effort retrieve the items that the arrested person left for his employer to pick up the night of his arrest. The Lyons Police Department was unable to locate the items.
The investigation revealed no one arrived at the scene to get the money and the items that belonged to the person who was arrested. Matejcik never turned the money, passport, and keys that were taken from the person who was arrested over to evidence.
Matejcik was booked into the Toombs County Detention Center.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

This sounds very familiar. In fact, on 03/11/22 I was was arrested by a Cole Dean with the JDSO in Hazlehurst, GA. Our (Michael Brooks and I) car keys, 2013 Chrysler 300S and our $20,000 worth of jewelry ALL conveniently DID NOT make it to the jail. Nor was it located at my home where it was left upon my release…
The LCN thought it was important to tell the story. Officers, other government employees and elected officials take an oath reminding them that they are held to a higher standard. In this case, law enforcement enforces theft laws, so its absolutely inexcusable to become a thief … that’s a double standard!
Don’t post it and call me a scammer again…
