By Carol A. Gasser Moore

TIFTON, Tift County, Georgia – Tifton Police Department (TPD) has released information connected to the discovery of a Tifton mother’s death on Tuesday, November 19.  According to information released by the TPD, officers were following their protocol to notify a parent that her 14-year-old daughter had been injured in an automobile accident, when they were confronted with the parent’s murder.  Since Tuesday’s discovery, the 14-year-old has now been charged with her mother’s murder in Tifton.

Tifton police have described going to a Tifton residence in order to speak to the teen’s parent, Rachel Wagner (41) of Tifton.  Wagner’s 14-year-old daughter had been involved in a Bibb County automobile accident.  Wagner’s home is located in Tifton on East 18th Street.

Initially, TPD officers were unable to reach anyone at the residence.  The officers then reached out to Wagner’s employer.  Wagner was not at work, so the officers were still unable to locate her.  As a result the officer returned to the Wagner residence.

This time, the officer was more aggressive about making contact with Wagner.  The officer was able to gain entrance to the home were the officer found Rachel Wagner dead in the back bedroom.  Wagner appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.

TPD continued investigating which seemed to indicate that 14-year-old Liliana Rose Wagner” was connected to the shooting death of her mother. Evidence is also said to have appeared that the 14-year-old juvenile took her mother’s car, drove to Bibb County, and became involved in an accident in that county.  The Tifton Police Department indicates that Liliana Wagner (14) has been charged with one count of malice murder.

The Tifton Police Department has requested help from the GBI.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Sylvester Field Office Crime Scene Specialist will process the crime scene.

A motive has not been determined and law enforcement has stated that they are currently still working to establish a motive.

Liliana Wagner is said to be in the custody and being held in the regional youth detention center.

TPD emphasizes that their investigation is active and ongoing. The TPD has asked that if you are a person with any information about this case, you are asked to please contact the Tifton Police Department Sergeant Sydney Greene at 229-382-3132.
