E.W. Wilkerson Ray City, GA 1943 – 2024

E.W. Wilkerson- 80 Of Ray City, GA passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 30, 1943 in Kite, GA to the late L.W. & Dora D. (Morgan) Wilkerson. E.W. was a deacon and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Ray City, GA. His commitment to his faith was unwavering and he touched many lives through his service and kindness. He was dedicated to his country for over 21 years, retiring as a CMSgt. He worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Manager (43200). After retiring, he and his wife, Shirley owned and operated Hotsy of South Georgia. He enjoyed growing vegetables and giving them to everyone. When not working he could be found fishing. Out of all the careers and vegetables, he was most proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. E.W. Wilkerson’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mary Nell Copeland and Diane Bowen; 2 brothers: Hershel Wilkerson and James Morgan.

Survivors include: Wife of 58 years, Shirley Wilkerson of Ray City, Georgia; 3 Daughters and Sons-in-law: Pam Chaney (Don) of Hahira, Georgia, Angie Pearce (Justin) of Yuma, Arizonia, Sandy Barnes (Jason) of Valdosta, Georgia; 6 Grandchildren: Matthew Duggan (Samantha), Lauren Chaney, David Duggan, Drew Chaney (Stephanie), Nathan Barnes (Meghan) and Caleb Barnes; 6 Great Grandchildren: Easton, Liam, Ryleigh, Mackie, Emery and Parker; Sister: Allie Dean Tapley of Kite, Georgia and a number of nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Ray City, Georgia. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Cemetery, Ray City, Georgia where military honors will be rendered. He will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday night, July 16, 2024 at the funeral home.
