Brenda Ann Rountree Coombs Hahira, GA 1944 – 2023

Brenda Ann Rountree Coombs, 78, of Hahira, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, following a lengthy illness. Born on Sept. 16, 1944, in Hahira to the late George Ashley & Ethel Guess Rountree, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. Brenda graduated from Hahira High School in 1962, where she was the co-Captain of the Cheerleading Squad. Soon after graduation, she married Robert Coombs on her birthday on Sept 16, 1962. Brenda was a homemaker for many years, but also assisted her parents at the Rountree Grocery Store in Shiloh, which later became the Shiloh Grocery store. In 1990, the Coombs converted the store to the Shiloh Florist. Brenda continued to help at the store until her health required her to semi-retire in 2019. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Hahira for many years, was a member of the Hahira Historical Society, assisted with the Shiloh Community 4H Club and quilted with the ladies at the Shiloh Community Center. Brenda was active in Shiloh United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at the church.

Survivors include her husband of almost 61 years, Robert Coombs of Shiloh; and her son Ashley Coombs of Hahira. Also surviving are several sisters in law, a brother in law and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a sister and brother in law, Betty Jean & Russell Simpson and a brother Bill Rountree.

The funeral for Mrs. Coombs will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Martin/McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Russ Elkins and Rev. Carl Howard will officiate. Burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira from 6 until 8 pm Friday evening. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Shiloh Methodist Church Building and Grounds Fund, 6028 Shiloh Road, Hahira, GA 31632.
