Portion of SR 135 to Temporarily Close for Pavement Repair in Early August

LANIER COUNTY, Georgia – A portion of State Route 135 in southeast Georgia will temporarily close for pavement repairs beginning early next month, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The closure will take place from the Berrien/Atkinson County line at the Alapaha River bridge south to mile marker 1.20, just below Springhead Church Road. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 4, and the road is expected to reopen no later than Sunday, Aug. 10, weather permitting.
During the closure, all traffic will be detoured via State Routes 76, 11 and 520. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.
The maintenance is part of a broader initiative to address deteriorating pavement conditions on rural state highways. SR 135, a two-lane arterial route, serves as a connector for agricultural traffic and local communities in Berrien and Atkinson counties.
GDOT officials said the temporary closure will allow contractors to perform resurfacing and subgrade repairs to extend the lifespan of the roadway and improve safety. The project is expected to be completed on schedule barring significant weather delays.
Emergency access for residents in the affected area will be maintained throughout the construction period.
