Sheriff Norton named Elected Official of The Year!

LANIER COUNTY, Georgia – The Lakeland-Lanier Chamber of Commerce named Lanier County Sheriff Nick Norton, “Public Elected Official of The Year”.  The award recognized Norton for his outstanding service and contributions as an elected official.

Collective society values are made into law.  Elected officials, who make decisions about a broad range of issues that are enacted into law.  In this case, Sheriff Norton is the chief elected official who enforces those collective society values which become our law.

 

In particular, Norton’s elected position is responsible for the policies that affect civil and human rights, education, health care and social justice.  The Chamber created this award in recognition of the many responsibilities and challenges of public service.

 

“I am truly humbled and deeply grateful to be chosen as Elected Official of The Year. This recognition is not just a reflection of my efforts but a testament to the incredible community, colleagues, and supporters who have stood by me every step of the way,” said Sheriff Nick Norton in a Facebook post.

 

“Public service is a privilege, and I remain committed to working tirelessly for the people I serve. Thank you for your trust, your encouragement, and this incredible honor. I look forward to continuing our shared mission to create a better future for all,” he added.

 

While the official Lakeland-Lanier Chamber of Commerce criteria for the award has not been released, it is likely that the criteria for the award is:

  • Be an elected official serving, at the time of nomination, in public office at the local, state, or national level
  • Make a significant contribution to public service while in office
  • Demonstrate leadership in advancing public policy in the area of vulnerable populations, civil and human rights, or social welfare
  • Demonstrate leadership on behalf of the protection and advancement of social work practice
