Valdosta Fire Department and State Farm partner for Fire Prevention Week

State Farm Insurance and the Valdosta Fire Department proudly announce their partnership for Fire Prevention Week™, October 8-14, 2023. The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) has officially sponsored Fire Prevention Week™ for over 100 years. The week-long event aims to raise awareness and promote fire prevention nationwide. This year’s theme, “Cooking safety starts with you. Pay
attention to fire prevention,” educates the public about simple but essential steps to help reduce the risk of fire when cooking at home, keeping themselves and those around them safe.

State Farm Agent Travis Pate delivered “Cooking safety starts with you” fire safety kits to the Valdosta Fire Department. These kits include informative materials and activity books for children and adults. The goal is to encourage citizens to make fire prevention a vital part of their home safety plan. Cooking safety is a significant concern because, according to the NFPA®, cooking is the leading cause of home fires,
with almost half (49%) of all home fires involving cooking equipment. The Valdosta Fire Department has a month of community-involved events in October to promote fire prevention. They will host various events to raise awareness of the importance of fire prevention and educate the public on fire safety. The department’s efforts will incorporate fire engine requests, station tours, and puppet shows, where citizens can meet their local firefighters and learn more about fire safety.

State Farm and the Valdosta Fire Department are committed to promoting fire safety in the community. By working together, they hope to empower citizens to take necessary precautions to prevent fires and keep themselves and their homes safe.
