Ray City Police Allegedly Confiscate Evidence Against Them

Two Ray City Police Officers, Ray City Police Chief Steve Miller (61) and his son, Corey Miller (33), who is a Ray City Police Officer under his father Steve Miller’s supervision, showed up at a North Street residence yesterday (Tuesday, August 9) with what appeared to be a false search warrant to seize two (2) cell phones belonging to the family. Yesterday’s events stem from an incident that occurred on North Street last Thursday, August 3.

On Thursday, a man riding his motorcycle was pulled off the motorcycle while driving down North Street. He was pulled with such force that both the man, Erik Duarte (32), and his motorcycle were pulled into the neighbor’s yard across the street from Duarte’s residence. The actions following the event appeared to be an unwarranted assault by the two officers. The actions the officers took afterward also raised questions about the legality under which they took control of the man and arrested him. That man is now in the Berrien County Jail where he sits without bond.

Because of the manner in which Erik Duarte was handled by the Millers on Thursday, August 3, calls were made by North Street area residents to the Berrien E911 Center for medical assistance and help, because of perceived police brutality. A 14-year-old, who lives next door to Duarte, saw what was happening to Duarte and immediately began to film the Ray City Police officers actions. That film, which this reporter has seen, clearly shows Duarte being restrained by an officer, who eventually punches Duarte causing lacerations to his face

They(the) cops. Need to be retrained or let off the force. If your a cop. Respect your duties. Do not think just because you wear a Badge you can do what ever you want. I know yall got trained in police force before you was released to do the job. I think these 2 cops need to start watching The Andy Griffin show.

I have no factual knowledge of any final results but based on my observations and first hand encounters with the law enforcement in Ray City, I would guess that the accountability was no more or no less than when the lead officer was involved in a fatal shooting, or when a former resident was harassed to the point of suicide. I could go on but I’d rather not become yet another victim of Ray City justice.
