VPD Arrest a Business’s Car Thief
By Carol A. Gasser Moore
VALDOSTA, Georgia – A business alarm activated last Saturday, April 15, in the 1800 block of South Patterson Street. A Valdosta Police Department (VPD) Officer responded. The business owner and the responding VPD officer observed that someone had damaged the front door and made entrance into the business.
The responding officer watched the businesses’ surveillance video. The officer immediately identified the offender as Andre Morrison (41), from having previous contact with him.
During the investigation, evidence showed that Morrison took a set of keys to a vehicle from inside the business. Morrison then used the keys to take the vehicle from the business that was in the parking lot, without the owner’s consent. Morrison drove the vehicle away from the scene.
On Monday, April 17, VPD officers obtained arrest warrants on Morrison for:
- Burglary-felony;
- Criminal damage to property-felony; and
- Theft by taking motor vehicle-felony.
An officer observed Morrison walking in the 1700 block of Airport Road on April 19. Morrison was arrested without incident and transported to Lowndes County Jail.
Andre Morrison has lived in the states of Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey. Within Georgia, he has been a resident of Albany, Atlanta, and Valdosta.
Information available to the Lanier County News (LCN) seems to indicate that Andre Morrison has been successfully prosecuted on a number of charges through the years. Morrison has been found guilty of:
- Violation of probation
- Criminal trespass – damage to property
- Battery
- Speeding over the posted limits
- Grand theft
- Dealing with stolen property
and has served time in prison.
