Without Enough City Support Local Library Remains Closed on Mondays

By Carol A. Gasser Moore

LAKELAND, Georgia – During the April City of Lakeland Council meeting, attendees learned that the Miller Lakeland Library continues to have a 20% reduction in its operating hours.  The reduction began in 2015 or almost 7 years ago when the City of Lakeland’s library budgeted local library contribution began to differ from the actual checks it sent to South Georgia Regional Library (SGRL) as its part of the local support for the library.  The reduction forced the SGRL Library Board to reduce the Miller Lakeland Library’s hours of operation successfully closing the library on Mondays.  Currently, the Miller Lakeland Library is open Tuesday through Friday each week.
