LCS Violates Open Meetings Requirements with its August Board Meeting

By Carol A. Gasser Moore

LAKELAND, Georgia – After several phone calls to the Lanier County News (LCN) office in the 2-3 days prior to the August Lanier County School Board meeting on Monday, August 9th, the Lanier County News was prompted to check on the notice and agenda posting of the Lanier County Schools.  On Monday, August 9th about 11:00 A.M., the LCN found neither a notice nor an agenda posted at the place of the meeting [Threatte Center] nor on its website.  The LCN can also affirm that the Lanier County School system did not let the Lanier County News send a notice.  It did, however, determine that the school system had its table in the lobby outside the meeting room ready for the meeting at 11:00 a.m. on the morning of the meeting.
