Lanier County BOC Finding Out Importance of Legal Aspects in Decision-making

LANIER COUNTY, Georgia – Two important legal angels exist with regard to the developing “Lanier County Wildfire Fire Department” and its declared department chief.  First, all fire departments in the state of Georgia by law must be established legally as an entity of the State of Georgia or a political sub-division within a defined area of operations.  Secondly, the department must be staffed with a minimum number of trained Volunteer Suppression or State Certified Firefighters, who have successfully completed basic firefighter training as specified by the Council.
