LAKELAND, GEORGIA – Tucked quietly along N. 10th Street in Lakeland, many people in Lanier County know very little about the Robert L. Patten Probation Detention Center. It houses a maximum of 252 male inmates, who have served time at the Center’s host facility – Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta. With over 54 staff positions, it is one of a handful of businesses which employ a number of our local citizens. Governor Brian Kemp has asked all state agencies to increase their budget cuts another 6% or a total of 14% for 2020 and into 2021, due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 virus. As a result, the RLP Probation Detention Center is most likely to be closed.
