Get Georgia Reading Update from the Director

From the Director of Get Georgia Reading

In less than two weeks, we will enter a new decade. When the Get Georgia Reading Campaign launched in 2013, we set our sights on an expectation that all young children would be on a path to third-grade reading proficiency by 2020.

Since 2015, the percentage of public school children hitting this milestone has increased 5 points to 42 percent. As infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and students in the early grades continue to benefit from innovative efforts underway across the state, we expect to continue to follow that trajectory.

We look forward to seeing more communities, parents, educators, leaders, and partners join this effort—and seeing more children discover the joy that awaits them on the pages of a soon-to-be favorite book. Let’s get Georgia reading in 2020 and beyond!

With gratitude,
Arianne
