4-H Cloverleaf Project Achievement
By: Megan Powell, Lanier County 4-H Agent
Lanier County 4-H attended the Southwest District Cloverleaf 4-H Project Achievement contest on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia. District Project Achievement (DPA) is a public speaking contest where youth give a 4-6 minute demonstration including a speech and posters on their project area of choice. The Cloverleaf age group is fifth and sixth graders! This is an outstanding competition that comes with a lot of hard work and preparation. DPA is an opportunity for young people to learn more about a topic that they enjoy and share their knowledge with others. These students wrote an essay, made posters, and practiced their demonstrations at the Extension office to prepare for the contest. No matter the results, they all learned new life skills, met new friends, and gained valuable self-confidence because of this experience. There were over 550 people at the event including 4-H’ers, teen leaders, volunteers, parents, and other Extension staff members.
