Poem: A Bend in the Road

I came today to a bend in the road
That hid all my tomorrow’s without a trace.
I slackened my pace and drew near its side,
And gave all my powers to read its face.
Taken away was my confident stride,
Dismissed was the sweet pilgrim’s song;
I stood, unafraid of the bend itself,
But not of its power to horde the unknown.
